Drilled Micropiles: Eastern Pennsylvania

A three story commercial structure experienced failure in sections of the existing deep foundation aggregate columns, which caused portions of the structure to settle 11 inches.

Limited Access?

Yes! We can help!

Shore Systems Group L.L.C. was hired to help the property owner and their engineering professionals solve the foundation settlement concerns in a limited access area and set new deep foundation to shore up the building by installing drilled underpinning micropiles.

We first installed one (1) sacrificial 5.5” cased grout filled micropile with 1.5” SS centralizer bar and performed an ASTM D3689 Tension Test once the appropriate cure time had occurred.

Following the load test’s passing results, Shore installed an additional (42) 5.5” cased grout filled micro piles with 1.5” SS centralizers, terminated with underpinnings brackets attached to the structures exiting footings. Most of the underpinnings were installed on the interior of the structure. To achieve this, the structures slabs were removed, and the areas of concern were excavated down to the footings base.

Shore was able to install the interior micropiles with a minimum 10’ of overhead clearance and in some locations less than 4’ of horizontal access.

This was accomplished by utilizing our specialized micropile rig. The rigs hydraulic power source trailer was detached on the exterior of the structure allowing the rig to operate off hydraulic umbilical. Utilizing this technique, our team was able to track throughout the structure and maneuver to the predetermined install locations.

HIGHLIGHT: Shore completed the project on time and on budget.
